Fàilte oirbh gu làrach-lìn Macmeanmna, companaidh a tha stèidhichte anns an Eilean Sgitheanach, agus a tha gu mòr a sàs ann a bhith leasachadh ceòl na Gàidhlig.

Macmeanmna is a Skye-based company set up in 1987 as a result of the formation of a touring group consisting of a musician, two singers and a photographer. They were just going on the road with their audio-visual show Skye-the Island, and had decided to record a cassette of the music from the show for sale on the tour. The four in the group - Gaelic singers Arthur Cormack & Shona MacDonald, keyboard-player and accordionist Blair Douglas, and photographer Cailean Maclean, decided that there was mileage in developing the company, and Macmeanmna was born as a recording label.

Since then, the company has gone on to record many albums, mostly with Gaelic singers, but also with a Scottish Dance Band, and of course, has released all the albums by the Skye-based musical genius, Blair Douglas. We have sold thousands of albums, proving that there is a market for Gaelic music, and we regularly supply contacts in the US, Canada, Germany, Spain and Japan, as well as the UK. Macmeanmna has also been involved in development work in traditional Gaelic music, staged numerous concerts, carried out consultancies, and produced the 1997 audio-visual touring show Oran nan Ràithe for Pròiseact nan Ealan.

Lately, Macmeanmna has been very happy to welcome new Gaelic band Cliar to its ranks, as well as Gaelic singer Donnie Murdo MacLeod. Albums are also being produced with Charlie MacLeod, a Glasgow-based accordionist with strong Lewis connections, and Donald Black, the ace mouth organ player, with Malcolm Jones of Run Rig.

We are keen to build up contacts with new retailers, new distributors in the UK and abroad, and would be happy to discuss licensing deals with companies wishing to take whole albums, or tracks from albums. We are keen to do deals with retailers, and often supply goods 'sale or return' to allow them to test the market. Free samples are also available to companies wishing to stock or licence our product.

We are also keen to act as an agent for anyone wishing to book our artists, and they can all be contacted through Macmeanmna. Macmeanmna is based within Arthur Cormack's music shop - Eisd - in Portree on the Isle of Skye.
